If policemen stop a woman, can they do a search of any kind,or do they have to wait for a policewoman to do it?

If its necessary to do so and there are no female officers available anywhere then it can be done. This would have to be in extreme circumstances though and best practise states that a person of the same sex should be used.

Bear in mind that a stop search is designed to negate the need for an arrest. If however there was no way to search the female and the male officer suspected her of having committed an arrestable offence, then he could arrest her and the search could be done in custody. She could then be de-arrested and released if innocent.|||Has to be a female.

edit. thumb me down but in the UK, scotland, male officers can't search a female, they would cuff you if need be radio, and wait for a female officer to arrive. I don't know there might be some circumstances where they can but in general they can't.|||It has to be female unless there are more than one male officer present and they have good reason to believe that there is a significant risk to yourself or others

xx|||They usually call for a female officer to do that kind of thing.|||Sorry I can't say about the UK, but in the US if a police officer has any reason to fear the person they can conduct a pat down weapons searh immediately.|||Has to be a female Officer.|||Male officers can search a female if thery believe there is a significant risk to their own person or others.

Otherwise a female police officer must conduct the search.

In any case, a search must be conducted with another police officer.|||im pretty sure that if he suspects somthing, or is told by someone that she has something on her or if he has the legal right, then he can do it himself.|||They have to wait for a woman police officer.|||A policeman should not body search a woman without a policewoman present.|||Yes that is the rule but the corrupt cops don't follow it.|||Border Patrol can, within 25 miles of the Border, search ANY person on mere suspicion. I was taught to always search women for weapons.

They do teach you to do it in an impersonal manner and full searches done at the station are done by female agents.

At the Academy I had to search a female agent twice because the first time I was too shy and she had concealed a fake razor blade in her panties.

I had a big collection of switchblade knives, some taken from women. Trust me, there is no sexual gratification in searching a group of 25 aliens who haven't showered in a week. If they were too proud to be searched, they would have chosen a different mode of travel.|||I don't need to call a female officer to search a female arrestee.

'Cos I don't want to deal with any BS complaints I restrict my patdowns to weapons only. If there is a possible contraband issue I'll have a female officer perform a more thorough search.|||In the US any officer can do a pat down to make sure there are no weapons on the person. But a full on body search has to be done by someone of the same sex|||In England, a single Police Officer has the power of authority to stop and restrain any person, male or female if he/she believes that the aforementioned person is in breach of the law, abetting a breach of the law and any previous intelligence (I know it's a contradiction).

In an "Imediate action" situation, that is a danger or risk of life to the public, a Policeman Can use all reasonable force to protect the public.

In a routine stop and search scenario, a male Police Officer can retain the suspect and await the arrival of a female Officer, to carry out a "frisk".|||a female has to search a female,
