Would you recommend becoming a policewoman?

I would love to protect my city, Portland, OR. So becoming a female police officer would be a good job for that. What do you think?

Thanks!|||Get into a good martial arts program like jujitsu or mixed martial arts for your protection...the big suspects love seeing a little woman walking on scene and you'll need to prove yourself more often than men. Learn to shoot pistols, shotguns, and the AR accurately and on the move.





Get involved in the community citizen's police program or ride alongs so you can see how boring the job is, and how fast it goes to "oh sh-t!" in 2.1 seconds. The HR/recruiter should be able to tell you about these programs.





Get your 4 year degree first so you have some upward mobility. Explore forensics, investigation, etc. Consider the state or federal police type agencies by researching jobs on usajobs.gov.





Remember your greatest asset and liability is that you're a woman...Your asset is that criminals will respond to your "mommy tone" like a child getting caught doing something wrongs stops in his tracks or you can get a guilt trip on them quicker by saying things like "what would your momma think."





Grow a tough skin and stay in excellent physical shape to give you the best chances of staying safe.





Remember also that as a police officer, you do not have the benefits and retirement that someone in the military has. You have stricter rules to play by, but you can also leave your job whenever you like--military can't. Weigh all your options and make informed decisions.|||Yes! I love them policewoman. Most areas have community police, perhaps that is the area which would suit you but there are a lot of oportunities once you join up, you could consider.
